little lucky fox

yesterday our phones were restored and today our internet is back. please excuse the silence. the barn is ok. we are ok.

but our little lucky fox was killed monday night. just before the storms. he got into the donkey pen and they killed him. just as they had originally intended when nick intervened. it was awful. and we have been quite torn this week. that little fox made such a bang into our lives that his death shook both of us to the ground. it has been nice being out of touch without phone or computer. it gave us time to be quiet and remember our two weeks with lucky as though they had been a lifetime.

we don't have many photos of him as nick's computer was also destroyed when the lightening hit our barn. but we have his memory and we hold the brief wonder of living with a fox.

no matter how hard a farm might try, death is still as raw to me today as it was when i first started doing this.

i hope it never get's easier.

i'll write more next week when i am able. for now, i just wanted to let you know.

  4. Je suis triste pour vous, ça avait l'air tellement beau d'avoir adopté un petit renard. Avec mon petit copain on se disait que vous étiez si chanceux de connaître une relation comme cela avec un si bel animal. Bon courage à vous.

  5. I realize it's part of nature, but my breathe still chokes and my heart still pains for the little guy.

Even so brief, I am so grateful to have "known" him. He was a special little fox and I will always remember him.

  10. I'm so sorry to hear that you lost the sweet little fox. It breaks my heart :( It has been a story that I've told everyone here in Finland too, and I showed everyone the picture where Lucky sleeps with his friends. Lucky gave many people smile to their faces, and that is all thanks to you two. I hope all the best for you <3

  28. Poor little lucky fox.

At least he had a happy if short life, you gave what most foxes never get, the chance to know cats, dogs and humans, and feel their love.

    A sad way to go.

  34. I an truly sorry to hear of your loss .Your open loving nature attracts these creatures to you- think of it as a gift.I have spent the majority of my 43 years on working family farms and still am felled by grief to loose much loved ( albeit often briefly) animals. We learn so much from them - not the least of which is compassion, something the human world needs much more of.
I have enjoyed you blog writings so very much having found it just a few months ago.You have a honest true light- thank you for sharing!

  35. Oh my...so sorry to hear about the little guy. May you find comfort in his peace and eventual joy in the memories you all made together. His entrance into your lives has many lessons that will take time to realize, but the knowledge, insight and love you have gained (and will continue to gain) are truly priceless. Be kind to yourselves and each other while you heal.

  47. We just lost our beloved cat (it's funny to call him just a "cat" because he was truly a family member and child of ours...our first born) of only 7 years. Suddenly died due to an accident. I remembered this blogspot and found comfort in it.
