me and me and me and them

this morning i found myself taking a photo of our little cat, friday, and me today to send to a friend. and the action caused me to scroll through the rest of the mac "photo booth". it would appear i am both a budding narcissist AND have developed a rather creepy animal problem. so naturally i thought to share.

here you have the contents of my photo booth from the last 2 years.

my apologies.

i wanted to thank you all for your kind comments and emails about little lucky fox. i haven't been able to write more about him because i find that the only way to not feel pain in these times is to allow myself to forget about him. to deny not only that lucky is dead, but that he lived at all.

and what a horrific thing to do. because he did live. he lived as a wild fox. and he lived as our fox. for just 12 days he was our fox. and we fell madly for him.

nick is a stronger man than i and wrote about lucky today. which you can read here

  1. You are so beautiful, my lovely kate! Please let me know the next time you're headed towards the island... or just want an excuse to head there and a place to stay! I'd love to drink a bottle of wine on menemsha beach with you before i move to china.

  3. oh, goodness, seeing the sad post about lucky and then the beauty of these photo booth images is a strange mix of sorrow and joy. so sorry for your loss. i have to tell you, my six year old daughter asks everyday to come to your blog because more than anything in the world, she wants a farm of her own...someday. so, for what it is worth, lucky the fox was not the only creature who is positively effected by your journey. a million hugs sent your way...

  4. I have to say, I have been following for some time and this just fills me with grief! I think it's natural to not be able to brush a loss of a pet (animal) on a farm as the 'circle of life.' I am so sorry for Lucky, I was looking forward to his story. I know there will be others! Healing thoughts your way.

  5. If by Narcissist you mean a human being having a wonderful human experience and wanting to share the cuteness with the world, by all means! So sorry to hear about Lucky. Nick wrote a fitting tribute. Hugs.

  6. I've been reading you now for about 2 months: I want to thank you for sharing Lucky with us. Yesterday, I read your post about little lucky fox and I was uncharacteristically overcome. I had to get up and walk away from my desk for about 10 minutes to keep my co-workers from seeing my welling tears. I'm not sure why it had such an impact but I'm glad it did. That little guy stirred something wild and wonderful in a lot of your readers I bet, and his sudden snuffing out highlights losses we've all suffered. I'm sorry he's gone, I'm glad he was yours.

  9. I was so sorry to hear about your adorable little fox, Kate. I know exactly what you mean about allowing yourself to forget. After I lost our beloved family dog, I didn't write about her on the blog for an entire year. It just hurt too much. I hope you start to feel better. Time heals all.

On a lighter note, I also know what you mean about the ridiculous amounts of "photo booth" animal photos. Here's one of my personal favorites...
